Dora Imhof
is an art historian. Her main research interest are film and video installations, oral history, islands and artists’ journeys, and history and theory of museums. Her book Künstliche Inseln. Mythos, Moderne und Tourismus von Watteau bis Manrique (Artificial Islands. Myth, Modernity, and Tourism from Watteau to Manrique, Berlin: De Gruyter 2018) was dedicated to islands as topics of artistic utopias since the 18th century. One chapter of the book focused on the connections between art, film, and ethnology in Bali in the 1930s.
